Yoga And Meditation – Combining The Two Disciplines For Best Results

While traditionally Meditation is known as an Eastern practice, Yoga has effectively taken the Western world by storm. Every street corner will have a Yoga centre or at least a Yoga Class and attending such classes is accepted even in the most religious families – or the most atheist ones for the matter.

However during the last couple of years Meditation has also gained in popularity in our modern world, especially since the need for stress relief is so acute.We are living in very busy and stressful times and sadly also in very materialistic ones. People have started feeling the need for something more, something that goes beyond instant gratification. But how does meditation work with Yoga to achieve elimination of stress along with other mental and physical benefits that we so need these days?

YOGA FOR FOCUS

We all know that Yoga is a form of exercise that is done at a slower rate than the regular fitness practices. While it is embraced freely by the population, there are still those people among us who simply don’t like to exercise. I know that this sounds a bit strange to the fitness maniacs among us, however it is true. One of my friends, for example, is even taking her car to go to the nearest supermarket.

So does this mean that the lazier among us have to suffer? Not at all, there is a particular style of yoga called Pranayama, which needs no movements at all. To practice this yoga breathing style you simply sit in one of the main positions and follow the Breathing Exercises that this particular practice describes.

Did you know that meditation is in fact one of the 5 yoga principles? the main 5 yoga principles are: proper relaxation, right exercise, proper breathing, adequate dieting and the right type of meditation.Thus as the two disciplines are strongly inter-related, when it comes to Meditation and Yoga together, the mind is taking over the work that the body was doing in other yoga styles.

CHAKRA MEDITATION

There are many people who think that Practicing Yoga also involves practicing meditation, or vice-versa,but this is far from it being true. However many people who have already been practicing yoga have later on picked up meditation as a natural transition. Also long time meditators  have started with practicing yoga later on as well. It seems that one easily lends to the other when it comes to people being serious about getting the right benefits from their practice for their lives.

So when you are thinking of taking up either Yoga or Meditation, don’t be surprised if later on you will realize that you are practicing both with equal satisfaction.
